Everyone has the ability to heal, and we do this quite naturally from our own life force when we soothe a child or support a friend. This method can leave us drained and depleted, but with time, rest, and care, we can rejuvenate that energy.
Reiki energy is available for us to direct into our energy bodies and out through our hands without borrowing from our own personal energy resources. We can use this energy to heal ourselves, our family and friends, our pets and plants, and our situations.
Three Degrees of Reiki
There are three “degrees” of Reiki, which is just another way of saying there are three levels of training. Reiki is taught by qualified Reiki teacher (sometimes called a Reiki master) who also helps initiate the flow of Reiki in each student. This is called an attunement, and it either reopens or strengthens the permanent energetic channel in your energy body through which Reiki flows. We will do attunements in person whenever possible, or via an interactive phone or video session if it is not possible to meet in person.
I’ve designed these courses to deliver the best possible 1-to-1 teaching in a remote capacity. I require all my continuing students to complete prerequisite courses with me because I care about your full understanding and application (if you wish) of the material, and also because I want to be able to encourage you personally.
Reiki I, or Reiki first degree, is the place where all beginners start, but it isn’t unusual for you to come back here for a brush up, or just to understand how Reiki energy works if you are already a healer in another modality.
In Reiki I you will learn what Reiki is, how it works, and the history and hand positions in the style of the Usui tradition. You will also practice Reiki I techniques on yourself and others. At the end of the instruction you will know how to use Reiki for yourself, your family and friends, pets, and plants.
This course is delivered over one week with lesson material delivered online. We will also have one group interactive session to go over material and answer questions, and one personal session together to have an attunement. If you have completed all the components of the course and practiced satisfactorily, you will receive a Reiki I certificate at the completion of the course.
Reiki II, or Reiki second degree, often attracts people who wish to start or improve their own Reiki practice. In order to take the Reiki II course you must have satisfactorily completed the Reiki I course with me.
In this course, you will deepen your understanding of Reiki and learn three sacred symbols and mantras to use in your Reiki treatments. You will also learn distance healing techniques, and other ways to prepare for, expand, and customize your sessions, i.e., meditation techniques, how to use crystals, how to clear a space, and how to scan your client. Finally, you’ll learn the fundamentals of starting a Reiki practice.

Reiki III, or Reiki third degree, is for people who have been practicing at the Reiki II level and wish to deepen their commitment to Reiki by becoming a Reiki teacher. A commitment at this level is a lifelong task—not just a matter of taking another course. It requires much practice, and also personal and spiritual growth, and you will notice changes in your everyday life and relationships.
At this level you learn advanced healing techniques, how to give attunements, and how to teach. You will assist in teaching Reiki I and Reiki II courses, and I will help you get started with your own teaching sessions. This level of instruction is only available to my students who have completed Reiki I and Reiki II with me. Because of the attention I give to Reiki III students, this training is available for a limited number of students.
See the individual course descriptions for a learning schedule and other specific expectations that may apply.
